Step 3 ...Layout

 

Once the background is laid out, then the fun starts. Many layers must be put down before the process is complete.

At this stage the details become important. I spend hours, sometimes days, putting down subtle details.

I cut previously felted pieces into shapes for hard edges and lay mohair yarns for linear effects, twisting and spinning new yarns for desired effects.

This process is totally consuming, and every aspect of color theory, perspective and value are employed, just like real art! You can make it look real or surreal, it's up to you. You can also count on your fellow workshop participants and your helpful facilitator, Me!

 

 

When the design is completed like these on the left, we can go to the next step where we contain the delicate, fluffy picture into a protective net.

These pieces were made in a workshop in Minnesota. Aren't they great?
